Thomas Johnstone is currently a resident in orthopedic surgery at Naval Medical Center, San Diego. He earned his medical degree from Stanford in 2025, where he first collaborated with members of the ROCK group. Prior to medical school, he attended the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated valedictorian of his class in 2021, majoring in mathematics with economics. While there, he competed in track and field for four years as a decathlete and pole vaulter, which influenced his interest in sports medicine.
During his time as an undergraduate and medical student, he developed expertise in statistical analysis, particularly supervised machine learning, which he hopes might benefit OCD research efforts. Thomas looks forward to a career as a military orthopedic surgeon and is immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the ROCK team. A native of California’s Central Coast, he currently lives in San Diego with his wife, Eva.
